Many women go for extended periods of time without cleaning their braided hair. Yet, your braids attract dirt, dust, and sweat, and you don't want them to stink. To avoid hair shaft damage, dry-wash the braids with a clean cloth, some water, and shampoo. Divide your braids into parts and clean the scalp with a moist cloth. Instead, break up the dirt and oil mixture gently yet thoroughly. After you've finished washing your African hair braids, squeeze out the excess water. Apply your favorite hair food and moisturizer evenly to the scalp to ensure that the tips and roots are fully fed.
